Who is the ” ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐ŸŒพManager Gardener ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐ŸŒพ “?
It is a definition that I created and used for the first time in an event last year where I was invited to talk about #leadershipofthefuture.

๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐ŸŒพ ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐ŸŒพ #managergardener has as its main purpose “to make its people flourish”, he focuses on achieving goals with and through the team.

You don’t always see it (it is not always in the front row), but you recognize “the touch”, appreciating the quality and effectiveness of the team that works with it.

๐Ÿ’ฃ He is a “bomb disposal expert”: he defuses problems and “roadblocks” that prevent his team from being successful, he facilitates, he intervenes; always leaving the first move and “the stage” to the team.

๐Ÿšถโ€โ™‚๏ธ ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ He is aware of the necessary and continuous path to become a true “people manager” and not “the boss”, of how essential it is to have clear your talents as well as your personal fragilities, which is necessary to be authentic and empathetic with all the members of his team.

This step, this “new skill” today is not only ethical, but necessary given the new complexities that every leader must face:

  • An increasingly unpredictable context that requires great adaptive skills and an autonomous and resourceful team
  • Difficulty in attracting and retaining talents who today are even more “mobile” and tied not only to “how much” but increasingly to how they are treated and how much they feel in line with the company’s values โ€‹โ€‹and objectives

Coaching can be an excellent tool to accompany leaders and aspiring leaders towards a path of development and acquisition of these new skills.

Thanks to Emiliano De Matteis for his interview where we also talked about ” ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐ŸŒพManager Gardener ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐ŸŒพ “
